The invention discloses a magnesian clay ceramic blank and a preparation method thereof. The magnesian clay ceramic blank is a ceramic blank using magnesian clay as a main plastic raw material, and consists of the following raw material components in percentage by mass: 10-30 wt% of magnesian clay, 35-65 wt% of high temperature materials, 10-30 wt% of talc, 5-20 wt% of calcium carbonate and/or magnesium carbonate and/or calcium nitrate and/or carbonate nitrate, and 0-20 wt% of potassium aluminosilicate, sodium aluminosilicate and lithium aluminosilicate. The magnesian clay ceramic blank is preferably prepared from the following raw material components in percentage by mass: 15-26 wt% of the magnesian clay, 40-55 wt% of the high temperature materials, 15-20 wt% of the talc, 5-12 wt% of the calcium carbonate and/or the magnesium carbonate and/or the calcium nitrate and/or the carbonate nitrate, and 3-10 wt% of the potassium aluminosilicate, the sodium aluminosilicate and the lithium aluminosilicate. The production cost is reduced, the product performance is improved, and the product quality is improved, therefore, the competitiveness of ceramic products prepared through the formula of the ceramic blank is improved, the raw materials sources of the ceramic blank are developed, and the development of novel ceramic blanks is facilitated.
